Now is the time to look for deals on ebay. It's the off season and you can pick up stuff at good prices if you are patient.

The Lotus sounds like a winner as long as the front padding is not too huge. Also if you are knocked out cold that type of PFD will force your face up out of the water.

As long as I am in a good quality high back seat like a Surf to Summit, the back padding has not been an issue.
