: It was raining at my house in North County when I was loading up my yak. I didn't care though. I was going anyway. Got down to Tidelands at 8:15 A.M. It was partly sunny and clearing. I was getting my rods ready on the beach when a guy pulled up in a white Cobra Navigator. It was I.B. Boyd. We talked for a while and got rigged up. I put on a Sabiki and was going to try and make bait. We paddled over to the Coronado Bridge. I tried jigging the Sabiki for nothing. I decided to skip making bait and fish instead. We caught a few bass drifting around the bridge pilings. We decided to go over to the flat in front of the Seal base and drift. Boyd was using a small pink colored grub on a leadhead tipped with squid on 8 lb test. He was slowly retrieving it on the bottem. He was slaying the bass. I was drifting with a frozen 'chovie. I had several bites, but missed them. Unfortunately I had forgotten my cut squid when I was loading up in the morning. So I was throwing my smoke colored Power Grub without any squid on it. I wasn't getting much action. Boyd was kind enough to let me have a piece of squid to tip my grubs with. The first cast after putting the squid on I caught a spotty. We made several drifts on the flat. On one of the drifts Boyd said that he hadn't caught a halibut from his kayak yet. Almost as soon as he said that he had a strike and reeled in a short halibut. That was pretty cool. We fished a while longer and decided to call it a morning. On the way back I decided to try drifting under the bridge with 'chovies. I caught a short halibut. All in all a pretty good day on the water. Thanks I.B. I enjoyed fishing with you. Let's do it again sometime soon.
