Double rigging

Has anybody caught a fish and left it on the hook and also trolly rigged a line to the leader and hooked the fish through the tail and fished that way?
I already know it is a one fish at a time thing, but I remember that someone said that they don't unhook the fish but keep it hooked and swimming on the side of the yak until they need it.
