Took my new Pro Explorer out for the first time today. I didn't plan to concentrate on fishing so much as I wanted to get used to the yak and all the gadgets. I got a Eagle Fish Easy 2 fishfinder and mounted the transponder per the fishin magician's previous posts. It worked flawlessly. I'm not used to all the bells and whistles of it, but I can say it has very good resolution. I launched at Dana Landing about 9:30A.M. The tide was going out and started to flow pretty good. I asked the guy at Dana Landing Market where the Bass were, and he suggested I try the Ski Beach area and the area down by the bird sancturary. I headed to Ski Beach trolling a jointed plug on my new Abu Garcia rod with my new 5500 C3 real(Thanks Santa) for nothing but eel grass. I love that reel though. It casts like a dream. I caught a 10" spotty right in front of Ski Beach on a 4" smoke Power Grub tipped with squid in 11' of water. I decided to go over to the Sailing Center and look around, seeing as the fishing was kind of slow. The Pro Explorer paddeled like a dream. What a great fishing machine it is. The Cannon paddle it comes with is ok, but I wanted to check out the Onno paddles at the Sailing Center. The second I picked up the Onno Touring Carbonfiber Hybrid I knew I was going to get one. I had never been to the Sailing Center before. The guy there was cool. He sold me the 2 pc. Onno touring paddle for $170. because it had a couple of small scratches. I figured big deal I'd put my own in soon enough. What a differance that paddle makes!!! It weighes 1/2 as much as the cannon paddle. It worked awsome! I fished on the way back to Dana Landing for nada. When I pulled my yak out of the water on the launch ramp this guy got out of his white Jeep Cherokee and came up to me. He was with the D.F.G. He was a bioligist. He checked my licence and conducted a survey. Where did you fish? What did you catch?..... He was pretty cool. He gave me a couple of those measuring stickers and thanked me for cooperating with him. All in all a pretty good day on the water. Off the water by 3:00 P.M. My one bay bass was released to grow up and fight another day. Next week I'm going to try S.D. Bay.
