The Baywatch theme music was the best.

Jason,

You can see me twice on the video. When Spike lands his kayak, I am the one in the red long sleeve shirt and straw hat (what's left of it) who walks out and grabs the stern. The other part is at the very end after the trucks are leaving, I am carrying the bow on Def Jack's kayak.

Footage was great, too bad whoever shot the video was not there earlier.

One other note, our post makes the event seem very traumatic. It was a serious situation, but everyone handled themselves very well and it was the wind that really pinned us and our bigger fear was if the wind would have bumped up 10 or 15 more knots. It was so strong and non stop the worry of an increase was in all of our minds.

Because of kayak fishing messageboards including this one and clinics like the ones that Spike provides; everyone on the water had all the information necessary to keep that day from becomming a disaster. There was hesitation to post what happened in fear that it might be misunderstood, but I think the responses here and the ones at www.kayakfishing.com show that the event was explained well by all. I suspect as soon as Dennis get's his computer fixed he will make another post about that day.

The Lifeguards normally would have plucked the 4 kayaks and taken everyone to Malibu Pier, but because of the experience and condition of Lou, Dennis, Rich and Jack, the Lifeguards put them back in the water and escorted them back to shore. From my understanding the Lifeguards do not get much practice for this type of rescue and they really went all out to also keep their skills honed. When the waverunner met them on the outer kelp, Dennis and Rich were sitting on Dennis' WS Tarpon drinking hot chocolate and Lou was in his kayak with Rich's submerged kayak next to them. Def Jack had planted himself in the middle of a huge kelp paddy so it became more of a situation that they needed Baywatch to help get the water out of Rich's Kayak. Remember Rich lost the cover to his center hatch, they drained his kayak and put him back on the water. So while the situation was serious, it was not disaterous.
