I've been in the kelp beds on 2 separate occasions where there were schooling White Sea Bass everywhere (THICK). They wouldn't bite anything I dropped in front of them. My baits were dropping right in front of their noses. The most frustrating thing I've experienced fishing. It would have been easier trying to snag them with treble hooks/irons, but that method doesn't use enough discretion. There were several 30-40lb class fish slowly schooling at the top of the water column.
I am very much interested in freediving but I haven't had a chance to do much of it yet. This Spring I'll be getting into it. You can bet if I see the sea bass thick like that, I'll be in there before then.
