Urine is best/fastest for jellyfish stings, use vinegar once on shore or if you have it with you. Sand only spreads the sting cells to other places, try to wash away the tentacles with water without touching the victim.

Sea wasp stings can cause death and excruciating pain, but these are found in the Philippines only in a certain season.

Aussies have discovered pantyhose is good sting protection although the best is still a lycra skinsuit (good for sun/UV protection) and booties.

The Chinese eat certain species of jellyfish specially in Chinese New Year (or anything that moves, for that matter). It's tasty and some crunch to it, think of al dente pasta.
