I came across these links for knots and these are some of the best websites explaining the the hows and why's I have seen.

The palomar, cinch, uni and the dropper loop are probably ones that you should know. Also snelling is really a good thing to know for bait hooks. It was not until I really took the time to learn these knots that I stopped loosing fish to a poorly tied knots.

I learned a technique for a hi lo rig that really has my attention. Your main line has to be 20lb or higher. Tie two dropper loops, make one cut in each of the dropper loops about a 1/2 inch from the knot. Take the long end and uni tie your lighter leader material to it. Then tie on your hook or trap rig. I used this setup in heavy bottom currents with 15lb leader and had ZERO tangling. The 20 lb main is stiff and lets the leader hang out there. This is of course with 2+ ounces tied to the bottom of the hi lo rig.
