: Thanks for the advice. I'll try it. I was planning on moving up to 20 lb line. I've never tried circle hooks, maybe i should give them a try. Wouldn't the hook rip out easier if caught in the lip?

circle hooks are designed to hook the lip witch is usualy the bony part of the fishes jaw right in the corner where top meets bottom jaw hooks vary rarely come loose from the lip best place you could possably hook a fish easyest place to remove hook without hurting fish. "release" fish has better chance of serviving. circle hooks almost never hook anywhere other then the corner of the mouth. by design. if you use a circle hook when you feel a fish strike dont set the hook just slowly reel line tight or let the fish pull line tight and the hook will set itself.By Design. If you set the hook like a regular hook you will pull the hook out of the fishes mouth before it hooks anything so dont swing on the fish just pull the line tight. The hook will set itself.
