Goldfish,

I own a Pro2 tandem. I bought it last year. It gets moderate to heavy use. It has been dragged on beaches, I have bumped into rocks and the hull is still in great shape. I use the yakima hully rolller system and I have no hull distortion were the wheels press up against the hull. I have completely loaded the hull and transported it on top of my car in 110+ heat for over 2 hours and there is no hull distortion.

I ran into a guy at Jim's tournament last Sunday that had a Pro 2 that was 3 years old and it was in excellent shape. The owner was happy with it.

As for a long term answer? I like to tell people I am one of the many guinea pigs and only time will tell. I installed the rod holders, so when I drilled the plastic, the hull thickness did not seem thin.

I am pretty sure that OK uses a different plastic than Malibu Ocean Sports and Cobra, which is why OKs seem stiffer. There is no question OK has excellent construction standards and probably the best in the industry, but their design department is still in the dark ages(IMHO).

As for customer service? I have not had to test that yet. When I purchased the kayak at the malibu store, I walked in and there were 6 or 8 boats in the store ready to go in all the different colors. I did not want the seat with the water bottle holders so I traded for the delux seat and paddle clips. I think Sean's brother runs the store and he was very nice to deal with.

I bought the package deal. The malibu store is about a 30-40 minute drive from my house. The kayak fits my needs quite well. When I purchase the kayak I kept reading all kinds of mumbo jumbo about how the plastic is no good and how there were problems. When I dug a little deeper, every negative comment I read or heard about Malibu Ocean Sports kayaks was from a person, who did not own one, who had never rented one and had never see one. It was all a bunch of hearsay. If you are a high maintenance person, like the guy who won the accurate reel in Jim's tournament and then called accurate and complained about the reel, then maybe the risk of not know the long term issues with Malibu Ocean Sports is not for you. I personally think the deck layout is on their kayaks is worth the risk for non touring style kayaks.

Go to paddling.net and look at the reviews under competition kayak, mine is there on the pro2.
