Sean,

I use a couple of sizes. The one pictured in the diagram is the small one (size 4/0) I use when the water movement is slow. I usually use their 6" (size 00) version or even their 8" (size 0) if there's enough water movement to make the dodger flutter.

The dodger is an attractant to the bait. The dodger uses a side to side swaying motion to attract the fish.
