I couldn’t take it any longer and so I decided to burn a vacation day and go fishing with my friends. The “Legend” and myself launch at 5:30 AM with about 4 or 5 other yak fishers.

The weather was mild and dark with a light breeze; the water was warm and inviting with a 1’ shore break.

We made bait at the buoy line and slowly worked our way out to the point. There was a lot of broken seaweed floating on the surface and the south wind was pushing it off the kelp and directly at us, so I drifted out back towards the canyon and into 120’ of water where the trolling was easier. Here a barracuda came up to the surface to attack and chew on my Mack.

Finally I put on a jointed Rebel and did some speed trolling out into the deeper water where half a dozen PB’rs were parked. Along the way I caught a 14” Kelp Bass for dinner and then retuned to the point about 9:30.

On the paddle back in Johnny told me about seeing a PB’r who was fishing with anchovies on the very end of the point that lost a 20 lb YT at the gaff.

John
