Davey jones,

If you mount the Piranha 5 (or Piranha 4) transducer inside the hull and still want surface water temperature, you can purchase an additional water temperature probe (TG-W) which plugs into the third connector that is currently unused. This will over-ride the temperature reading from the built-in temp probe in the transducer. Of course you probably don't need another wire to worry about and where would you mount it on a kayak?

As for the fuse - it could be smaller as these Piranhas's take a small 'bite' out of batteries. I've measured the current draw on the Piranha 5 as being only 40mA with no lights on and about 180mA with the lights on high. The other Piranhas draw less power than that. They are all very easy on the batteries and shouldn't require one of those big 12-volt batteries.

I'll help when I have time too…
