NRS Sea Tour Jacket

I recently had the opportunity to field test the Sea Tour Jacket from Northwest River Supplies

The NRS Sea Tour Jacket is made with Wave Tex fabric.  Exclusive to NRS, Wave Tex is both breathable and waterproof.  The jacket comes nicely equipped with standard options ranging from adjustability to safety features and pockets.  It's looks good too!

The jacket is extremely effective at repelling water.  The splash "bounces" right off of the jacket.  A combination of both velcro and neoprene seals the wrist and neck areas to prevent splash from getting in.  These velcro seals are fully adjustable to accommodate various neck and wrist sizes.  Adjustable shock-chord waste and taped seams keeps the rest of your body protected from residual water getting in.

The Sea Tour comes with a visored hood.  It's extremely handy, especially when it comes to high winds and rougher waters.  I've found that wearing a hat can be next to impossible in moderate or gusty winds.  The visored hood stays on when most hats would fly off, providing protection from the sun, wind and water.

I'm really impressed by Northwest River Supplies attention to safety.  Reflective tape is sewn  on to the shoulders (and a few other key areas) to improve visibility in low light conditions.

Some jackets are designed exclusively as protection against splash.  The Sea Tour is much more than that.  It does keep you dry but it also offers real thermal protection.  This is a warm jacket.  Granted, winters in Southern California are relatively mild, I did experience some temperatures below 40 F.  With only one additional layer of clothing underneath, the Sea Tour kept me warm throughout the day.  Underarm zippers offer better control over ventilation when I needed it.  For those cold mornings and warm afternoons, it was really easy to simply take the Sea Tour off and to stow it in one of my hatches.

I found the NRS Sea Tour Jacket to be both extremely comfortable and effective at protecting the paddler and fisherman from the elements (wind, water and cold).  The high quality jacket is light weight, breathable and did not interfere with my paddling and ability to fish from the kayak.

I would normally expect to pay $200-300 for a jacket like the Sea Tour from Northwest River Supplies.  The jacket retails for $135 and comes standard with a 1 year warranty.  That's a lot of bang for the buck!
