Hey all,

I'm going to be part of a large group renting a beach house in Carova Beach Area in July. Since I love to fish I thought I would rent a kayak and maybe some crab pots. Any comments on surf fishing versus sound fishing? What should I expect if I try to rent a Kayak for a few days? I have the usual fishing gear for bass and panfish.

I have light and medium fishing gear and I just went to BassPro to get 12lb line, 3/4 brass sinkers, 3/0 circle hooks, and 20lb leader. Will that be OK for surf fishing? Also, is there any advantage to buying a crab trap (about $26 on Ebay) versus renting? Where's the best place for the crab trap - in the Ocean or in the Sound?

I see I need to get a license, but other than that I would like any info on OBX fishing.

Thanks!

crab in the sound, you can get cheap traps at any baitshop

I beleive that part of the sound requires a freshwater NC license it is brackish, and holds some big bass, and all saft water now requires an NC saltwater license.

Try Kitty Hawk Sports for rental/info
