For myself, it depends first on if I'm surf launching or not. If I'm launching from the harbor I'll wear my paddle pants and paddle jacket like I usually do but I'll add a nylon pants shell layer to it. I usually just wear a bathing suit under my paddle pants and a long sleeve shirt or thermal layer beneath my paddle jacket. When surf launching I don't add the nylon shell pants until I get out past the surf. You can find thin nylon pant shells in camping and/or hiking/climbing departments of sport goods stores. They fold up into a tiny pocket and usually run for about $20-$25. The thin nylon pant shell layer really helps deflect the water from dripping nets off of my lap. It also works great over a wetsuit. There's almost zero thermal value to it so of course needs to be used as a supplement to existing protection.

Wool caps as well as paddling gloves are nice to have on those cool nights.

Some hoopers use waders. I don't want to open a can of worms by talking about potential drawbacks from wearing waders. They are very dry. Some people claim it's safe even if you were bobbing around in the open ocean. Some people say it can be a potentially bad situation if you were to fall off/out of the yak. To me it looks like a huge funnel opening at the top waiting to be filled with water. Stay on the deck and you'll be fine.

Cool jas

I wear my paddling pants and shorts underneath until the weather gets really cold then I wear a pair of thermals underneath and a waterproof jacket on top with either a long sleeve or short sleeve T-shirt under it sometime a warm beanie and a pair of neoprene dive gloves and dive booties for my feetsies Smile I tried wearing waders but they did not move like paddling pants and a jacket I made sure I got all waterproof clothing for hooping because no matter what you will get wet.
