Hey all, I'm getting ready to install a FF in my Trident 13 Angler kayak. I've been contemplating where to install it. The sonar shield and associated compartment where it is designed to be installed seems to be too far forward of the seating position. I've not used a fish finder before but I'm assuming that you want it positioned within easy reach of the seat so you can make adjustments etc... while underway. Am I overly concerned over nothing? Thanks.

once you set yer parameters...you won't need to fuss with it much...
i think it's best to keep it forward...out of the way...

you'll dig how it shows you structure...now you'll find ledges 'n'
crap out in areas you wouldn't have gone lookin' before...

some people rely on it to find fish...i don't...the fish could be just
out of the window...'n' if you don't drop...you'll never know...

yer gunna love findin' crap out in the desert...wish i had a trident 13...
sure would make launchin' easyer at county with my rods safely hidden
between my legs...yer gunna bee stoked...

if you think it's far away on the 13, ought to see it on the T15. it's like in another area code

phil's right, that you really don't need to mess with it that much at all once you got it set. for me though, the one thing is I have the gps combo in mine and I like to mark spots and that can be tough as it's a long reach. there's really no other place to mount the thing though as the rod pod really limits deck space. it's my one gripe about the trident really, that you lose tons of usable deck space. other than that though, the rod pod provides a great level of comfort with the surf.

the sonar shield is actually pretty nice and a convenient mount spot. well thought out too.

My FF also has GPS and I anticipate wanting to marks spots as well. I'm thinking about getting the OK Modular Rod Pod that's standard in the '11 Trident Anglers. Pics of it show a FF mounted on the front portion of it. In the end though I'll probably just mount it where the OK designers intended for it to go.

I would recommend the Mod Pod if your worried about your gps/ff being too far away. I just ordered my new OK Trident 11 and it comes with the Mod Pod. If it didn't I would definitely be ordering it. It looks so much more convenient than the lid on the rod pod. A little tip is to sign up at Austin Kayak for their newsletter, then at the beginning of next month you'll get an email and a code for 20% an accessory. That makes the Mod Pod a little less expensive, it would be $60. And they offer free shipping on orders over $39! Just a little tip!
