I've been freshwater fishing for as long as I can remember and I just started surf fishing about two years ago. I've been thinking about getting a kayak to bring upstate with me so I can go in the shallows and won't have to bug a friend to take their boat out at the crack of dawn to watch me fish. I go to schroon lake every summer with a family friend for 4-7 days who bought a house there. The problem is, its 4+ hours away and he works for 2-3 weeks at a time making it difficult to plan something and I don't think it will be worth buying to use it for a two or three weekends every year. Does anybody know of a good place to go that's relatively close? Preferably freshwater because tides and currents seem a little scary rite now being I'm so inexperienced. I don't know anybody who is into yak fishing so I know very little about it. All of the lakes on the island are extremely small, and I doubt I can even launch there, the bays are whatnot something that I know nothing about. Any extra information would be extremely appreciated.
