I need something to stop my kayak from going where I don't want it while casting. So what are the proper or easiest ways to rig an anchor? What weight anchors are needed for lake use? I have a FnD if that matters. I ask because from what I seen out there on the net, the anchors only weigh 3lbs or less. Thanks........... _________________ www.flyfishthesurf.com flyfishthesurf@yahoo.com

In the ocean I have to use a 5lb so I don't pull myself away, but at the lake I use something smaller. Oh I also use a anchor trolley so as to control the way I sit to cast.
anchor trolley side
anchor trolley rear
anchor trolley front
anchor trolley front
I put the rope through the ring and adjust the top rope for positioning.

I was thinking of just having it drop of the back because I like casting straight off the front with my fly rod. That way I have plenty of room for my striped in fly line. One of the problems with a fly rod is having a deck clear of any and all items that may catch your line.

First, thank you Chung King for the anchor set-up tip.
From a recent tourney winner that's a gem you shared.
As for kayak flyfishing, I heard you may want to sit sideways so your line will have less to catch on as you work it in and out. That's only possible with a sit in top yak of course.
Another tip, an anchor connected to a foot long chain can help you get out of snags if you get stuck and provide a holding pt for the rope.
Be safe.
